I stumbled upon a super awesome lipstick hack this past weekend, and I just had to share it!
I wrote about the long lasting power of the Maybelline SUPERSTAY 24® lipstick before, and talked about how it will literally last through anything. Believe me, I was skeptical too, but there’s just no stopping it!
At this point, I know that Maybelline SUPERSTAY 24® works great on its own, but what I discovered is that it also plays well with others.
It’s a day that probably has a lot more significance than just green beer, but since I don’t know what it is, I’m going to focus on green makeup instead!
Some of my friends happen to be beauty junkies as well, and subscribe to various beauty boxes filled with random monthly goodies. The beautiful thing about it for me is that I often get “weird” and “unusable” products tossed my way. Green shimmer eyeliner? I’ll take it! Green eye-shadow? Pass it here!
The reason I like trying out different products is because it’s not about the one single product, but rather about how you work it. Confidence is number one, followed by how you wear it and what you wear it with Read more
Lisa Eldridge, makeup artist extraordinaire, has worked with every A-list celebrity under the sun, and makes the most useful and beautiful makeup up tutorials. As of recently she is also the creative director of Lancôme make-up. I really don’t know how she does it all, but lucky for us she continues to create YouTube videos for us common folk and I want to mention a few of the things I’ve learned from my makeup idol.
The main thing I learned, by reluctantly doing my makeup in the morning (nope, not a morning person) is that in order to look put together in a short amount of time you must touch every surface. What I mean by that is don’t leave any part of your face out! It’s just not fair. Even though you don’t have a lot of time, applying foundation and simple barely-there eyeshadow will do wonders!
Here are the simple steps I take to achieve a simple 5 minute look (& a few tips and tricks along the way):
Many of you may have seen this video making its rounds on the internet, showing the Power of Makeup, by Nikkie of Nikkie Tutorials (who by the way is amazing!!).
The lesson you take away from this video is up to you, but I thought it was an important video to talk about. I often discuss natural beauty (latest natural beauty tutorial here). But another subject I talk about is confidence, and the ability to understand that there are NO RULES. If not wearing makeup, or wearing a little bit of makeup is your thing – great! If you love to have fun with makeup and treat it like your very own daily work of art – good for you! What I’m getting at is, you should do what makes you happy. While I think that it’s important to be confident with your natural beauty, people have different motives for wearing makeup.
One thing I’ve learned is not to judge people. (More on the time I judged too soon and Christine Teigen put me in my place here ) . Even if to you makeup seems superficial and unnecessary, it doesn’t mean that others see it that way. It very well could be that others view it as a fun outlet for creativity, a way to step into a new character for a day, or experiment with new techniques. And if it happens to be the case that you know someone is wearing makeup as a means to cover up an insecurity, it’s the more reason to help them, and not to be judgmental. Read more
I hope you’re enjoying spring and having fun with lighter layers and fun colours!!
Today I want to talk about the quintessential part of any beauty toolkit – the red lip!!
From classic Hollywood glamour to modern day cool, the red lip will forever maintain its allure, and will continue to brighten the faces and moods of women everywhere. Of course there are as many red lipstick shades as there are beautiful women, and finding the ‘perfect’ one can be daunting. I am here to tell you, or perhaps to remind you, that creating your own is perfectly acceptable and leads to fabulous results. Think of all the different colour lipsticks that are hiding in your makeup collection, and think about how many more possibilities there would be if you began to mix some of them and create brand new shades! That’s exactly what I did recently and here is the result:
To me this shade is perfect! It’s muted yet bright, and can be easily worn during the day with a simple eye, or glamorously played up at night. Read more
Thank goodness for Canadian boutiques carrying British brands!
I am absolutely in love with Darling – an English brand I discovered while perusing Gather, my favorite boutique! In fact, I’m building quite the Darling collection.
This Milena Lace Tunic, is the only shift-style dress I own. I tend to gravitate towards more hourglass silhouettes, but I couldn’t walk away from this pretty cutaway detailing. The neckline, although conservative, feels very pretty and special thanks to the gorgeous and feminine lace. I got it on sale as it was part of the fall/winter lineup, which is slowly being pushed out to make way for spring, but I see a lot of spring potential! The material is lightweight so it will be perfect for a summer night. For more casual summer nights, I’d wear it with fun coloured heels or wedges, and maybe a thin belt. For fancier ones I would kick the jewelry up a notch with some classic earring, and keep the colour scheme more monochromatic with black heels to complete the look. As it is still winter, and it was a casual night out with friends, I wore this dress with black tights and the comfiest brown boots (Aldo?). Read more
I wanted to share a quick makeup tutorial of a look I created when we went to the Garrison in Toronto to watch my friend’s band perform.
I recently picked up a lot new makeup at yet another sale. I’ll be posting a complete haul in the next few days, but one of my new purchases included a fantastic gold eye shadow by L’Oreal. In fact I went a bit buck wild when it came to eye shadows, and that’s what this look is revolved around. Read more
Hi Lovelies!! Here are some of my fave products right now. Some I mentioned before others I didn’t but I’m really enjoying all of these so this is my January summary to make sure we’re all looking good and feeling good despite this crazy weather.
Every time I see this awesome “Volcanic” lipstick by L’Oreal in my makeup up stash I feel happy! I find red very dramatic but this orange-y shade just right. I like to use a brush and outline my lips using the same shade, and then fill in the rest. It stays on pretty well without budging, but if you drink or give someone a kiss it will transfer.
As you know I’m a fan of L’Oreal and their subsidiary brands. I absolutely love the L’Oreal voluminous mascara, and I’m very happy with their nail polishes, perfume and lipstick, so I figured I’d try something new made by the same awesome brand.
I love wearing lipstick! I have lots of awesome shades I would love to incorporate more into my daily looks – reds, purples, oranges, bright pinks, you name it! But I don’t think my bold hues are appropriate for the office environment I work in. This doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate lip colour and are bound to only wearing clear and nude gloss. Rather, it’s a matter of finding a creative way of applying lipstick such that you get the benefit of added colour in a way appropriate for casual wear, and the office. The solution?
Use your fingers! Why does this work? It gives you the flexibility to build the hue up as much or as little as you see fit. Below, I used my Annabelle Lipstick Crayon:
This colour can be quite dark if you apply it directly onto your lips. Below I start by not wearing anything on my lips at all, and move to 1 layer of this shade applied with my fingers. Next I build it up and add another layer. I would wear #1 and #2 to work, and save #3 for a night out.
Applying lipstick or lip stain with your fingers creates a more natural and long lasting effect too!
As you know Gather in Bowmanville hosted ‘Gather For The Brunchkins’ to raise money for Brunchkins which is a great local cause. The event was super successful! Everyone had a great time and tons of money and food donations were raised. I had the privilege of meeting wonderful women and doing mini-makeovers using Arbonne Makeup.
Doesn’t this station just put a smile on your face?? Read more
Lot’s of makeup posts lately! I guess it’s because I’ve been so excited for the Gather For Brunchkins event coming up tomorrow night – it’s all I’ve been thinking about. Gather for Brunchkins is an event aimed at raising money for Brunchkins which is an organization providing breakfast and a packed lunch for kids in non-profit housing, in the Bowmanville area. If you’d like to come by tomorrow, it’s not too late! There will be tickets at the door for $20. There will be a beautifully motivational talk given by Julia Grieve, wine, food, goodie bags, and make up tutorials by yours truly! The makeup I’ll be using tomorrow will all be by Arbonne Cosmetics. The great thing about Arbonne is that not only does it work really well, but it feels fantastic on your skin due to the fact that it’s paraben free, phthalates free, 100% vegan, doesn’t contain mineral oils, no gluten, no artificial fragrances, and is PETA approved. Yes, it’s good!
To create today’s look though, I used several different brands, and some new products I was eager to try.
The products I’ve never tried before are the Annabelle Bronzer, and Annabelle pencils – both eye and lip ones, And I have to say I’m pretty impressed. The great thing about a lip pencil, and I don’t mean a lip liner, but one you would use for your entire lip, is that you can’t screw up! Just like when you were little you get to colour inside the lines. Maybe it’s just me but I feel that this way you have more control. The other thing I liked about this pencil is that its rather moisturizing and also doesn’t feel like a foreign body annexed to your lips but rather natural and comfortable. The shade I’m wearing is called Vamp and you can find it here.
The awesome thing about weekends is you can let loose! You don’t have to look corporate and mundane. You can experiment with colour and do whatever makes you feel good! You want to try out new shadows? Eyeliner? Different colour lipstick? Go for it!
Here’s a bit on inspo to get you started:
What I used:
To create this look I started with a primer & foundation combo. I didn’t apply bronzer like I usually do because I wanted to stay with the pinks, and apply a cozy pink blush, and light pink lip-gloss.
I just want to put it out there that you are all naturally beautiful and really don’t need to spend a lot of time enhancing your natural beauty. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m participating in an event on November 12th, where I will be giving makeup tutorials on how to achieve the perfect 5 minutes face, which I believe is all you need to look polished and put together, so today I would like to share it with you!
So there was a makeup sale in town and this happened:
I regret nothing! It was hosted by L’Oreal and the prices were second only to the selections. The cool thing was that not only were there amazing deals on L’Oreal products, but the sale featured L’Oreal’s other brands as well. For example, there was a pretty wide selection of perfumes and I was able to get the YSL Manifesto perfume I’ve had my eye on, for a fraction of the cost. Read more
