Vegas Challenge Baby!

Vegas Challenge Baby!

Hi Lovelies!

Today is all about Vegas & the #UltimateVegasOutfit challenge! To me, this is an opportunity to play virtual dress up, and reminisce about my own trip to Vegas.  I went to Vegas last year, and the city is as diverse as it is bright! So the Ultimate Vegas Outfit is one that makes you feel comfortable, and confident – whatever that might be. For me it was a purple Le Chateau dress that hit just above the knee, paired with a damask-like necklace and sky high heels to match. The dress was covered yet tight so basically appropriate for any occasion – show, restaurant, wedding. Read more

Botties Booties Booties!!

Botties Booties Booties!!

I have some majorly exciting news to share!!!

As you know, I’ve been partnering up with Malu to bring you giveaways here on the blog. Throughout our collaboration I had the privilege to get to know Malu and am proud to call her a good friend.

Malu is so wonderful and kind that she created a custom pair of booties just for me! If that wasn’t enough, these babies are part on the Fall/Winter collection, and ARE NAMED AFTER ME! That’s right, the Fanny can be all yours this fall! I have to tell you that not only are these booties unique – with their cutout design, and extremely high quality – high end Italian leather, they are also comfortable and well thought out. The heel is thick enough to allow you to rock it all day long. Not only that, but the grip is superb, so I wouldn’t even hesitate to wear them in the winter (with tights). In true Malu fashion, there is of course a touch of kindness, via a gold plated “I love you” message. And I certainly am in love with these shoes!

3 Steps to Mixing Patterns

3 Steps to Mixing Patterns

Yes yes yes! This season is great! This is so revolutionary! When else in recent fashion history has there been another such exciting development which lifted a fashion ban on something previously thought of as a completely taboo? I absolutely love that this season has brought us the new trend of mixing prints & patterns!

Mind you, I don’t like ALL mixed patterned outfits, but you know my rule: if your hair and make up are done and you wear the look with confidence, you can rock it!

Here is what I found to work best when attempting this radical pairing:

1. Stripe + Print + statement necklace.

This formula will save you time! Go ahead and mix other prints, but stripes are easiest of all to match with other prints & patterns. A statement necklace works to pull your outfit together, and in and of itself has been a huge trend over the last year. Read more

Upgraded Sock Bun!

Upgraded Sock Bun!

Sock buns are awesome!! If you’ve never made one check out the tutorial here.

They immediately add volume to your hair and make a regular bun look so much more substantial! They also make it look like you know what you’re doing and were able to gather your hair into an impossibly neat, ballerina worthy, bun.  With that being said, here’s a fun twist on a style that’s quickly become a new favorite! Jeanne Lottie – A Timeless Toronto Gem

Jeanne Lottie – A Timeless Toronto Gem

In the world of fashion passing the test of time is a real feat. When a company celebrates its first year in business and continues on it’s quite impressive. When a company celebrates 5 years it must be doing something right, and 10 is a real achievement. Now fast forward another 20 years, and you get the beautiful, and proudly Canadian, Jeanne Lottie. Jeanne Lottie, which celebrates its 30 year anniversary on April 1st 2015, is a unique brand of handbags with the most diverse customer base, and truly something for everyone.

A  Schulich School of Business grad, Jane had an innate creativity that just couldn’t be tamed. Armed with her creative mind and business savvy, Jane and her sister Charlotte began what is now a true Toronto staple.

The name Jeannie Lottie is derived from the names of the 2 original founders Jane and Charlotte, and coincidentally means true happiness in Chinese. I had the pleasure of speaking with  Jane, and learning more about Jeanne Lottie.

How did you get started? Why handbags?

At the time, in 1985, there was a void in the market. Everything was so boring! I wanted to create fun handbags – I wanted to create my own unique designs. I love to sketch and experiment with different colours, fabrics, and textures, and our technicians help bring my visions to life.

What was your biggest challenge starting out?

Stores thinking that we were too different. They’d say our purses were wonderful window pieces but not ones to be sold. I guess the window pieces drew the customers in after all!

What makes Jeanne Lottie different today?

We are located in a pink house, where we are girly yet polishes, fun yet stylish, and accessible. You can walk out with 5 bags and still be happy, because you didn’t break the bank!

Do you find yourself governed by current trends?

No, actually I think that sets us apart too. I don’t follow trends too closely but somehow we get it right…maybe I’m psychic?

Where do you draw inspiration?

You, everything around me, everything around us! Inspiration is everywhere.

What strikes you most now that the brand is 30?

We’ve always had customers of all ages – ranging 8-80! But now we’re seeing the next generation of handbag lovers. We’re seeing moms that used to buy handbags when they were little girls, come in with their daughters. It’s so encouraging!

Who is your fashion icon?

Betsey Johnson &  Audrey Hepburn mixed

That description of Jane’s fashion icon captures perfectly the Jeanne Lottie aesthetic!

Nestled in the heart of Yorkville, in a pink house, you can’t miss this not-so-hidden gem.  You can also find Jeanne Lottie in Browns Shoes, Capezio, at the CN Tower, and select Shoppers Drug Marts. Speaking from experience you’re sure to get compliments on your arm candy  everywhere you go!

Pink on Pink on Pink – Spring Look

Pink on Pink on Pink – Spring Look

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you had a great Passover, Easter, or just a warm spring long weekend!

I recently picked up this great flowy salmon coloured top from Winners, and I just couldn’t wait to style it. Salmon and coral shades in general are very universal and flattering on all skin colours. Which explains why I’m not waiting to be tan to bust this one out!

I chose to pair it with warm colours in various shades of pinks and oranges, and add a pop of blue with my purse – all with some awesome gold hardware. Read more

The Beautiful Heart of MaLu

The Beautiful Heart of MaLu

As seen in POP News Magazine‘s March edition:

It’s not every day the words inspiring, ‎stylish, innovative, and beautiful are used together, but that exactly what comes to mind when I think of Maria Luisa – founder of MaLu.

Maria is a high school teacher with a passion for community and humanity. Having seen first hand some of her students come to school hungry, she knew that it was no way to learn and she just had to do something about it. She started the “Start Me Up” breakfast program in her school. The program began with $500 and many local businesses eager to help, and grew to become the model school for the Toronto District School Board’s nutrition program, and resulting in a $100K grant from Sun Life Financial to help expand it.

Unfortunately the school where this initiative began had to close, which was “detrimental” since there was more work to be done. Not one to wallow, Maria took her passion and energy and devoted it wholeheartedly to MaLu where she continues to make a difference by donating 5% of all sales to local charities. Read more

First-Lady Fashion: Michelle Obama’s Influence on Clothing

First-Lady Fashion: Michelle Obama’s Influence on Clothing

Hello Lovelies,

Today’s post is brought to you by  Bluegala Fashion Blog , who created a fabulous infographic with some pretty crazy information!

We all know Michelle Obama is a beautiful woman, who sports fashion forward yet mostly affordable looks, but she does more than that. Her style choices alone have a huge impact on the economy, and on the lucky brands she chooses to wear. Check out the stats below. Enjoy!

Throughout history the first-lady has influenced fashion trends, however, none have had as much of an impact as Michelle Obama. Her clothing choices can result in stock prices for the clothing companies to rise as much as 2–3% for up to 3 weeks after she wears an outfit. Her fashion appeals to the people as she mixes more affordable brands like Gap and Target with high end pieces.

Black can still be fun!

Black can still be fun!

Thank goodness for Canadian boutiques carrying British brands!

I am absolutely in love with Darling – an English brand I discovered while perusing Gather, my favorite boutique! In fact, I’m building quite the Darling collection.

This Milena Lace Tunic, is the only shift-style dress I own. I tend to gravitate towards more hourglass silhouettes, but I couldn’t walk away from this pretty cutaway detailing. The neckline, although conservative, feels very pretty and special thanks to the gorgeous and feminine lace. I got it on sale as it was part of the fall/winter lineup, which is slowly being pushed out to make way for spring, but I see a lot of spring potential! The material is lightweight so it will be perfect for a summer night. For more casual summer nights, I’d wear it with fun coloured heels or wedges, and maybe a thin belt. For fancier ones  I would kick the jewelry up a notch with some classic earring, and keep the colour scheme more monochromatic with black heels to complete the look. As it is still winter, and it was a casual night out with friends, I wore this dress with black tights and the comfiest brown boots (Aldo?). Read more

Preloved’s Julia Grieve talks success!

Preloved’s Julia Grieve talks success!

Julia Grieve, the beautiful fashionable and successful woman behind Preloved, was generous enough to sit down with me for a chat where she let me pick her brain. Having started her own business at a very young age, Julia definitely knows a thing or two about entrepreneurship!

“When I started my business I was young and not afraid of anything. Ignorance can truly be bliss! I knew exactly what I wanted and I went after it. I, of course, could not have done it without the support we got from the city, without my family, or without my modelling experience.”

She credits her attention to detail and meticulous eye for fit to her career as an international model.

“Wearing some of the most expensive brands in the world teaches you about how clothing should fit, and feel.”

Oscars 2015 – Red Carpet Round Up

This year’s red carpet was stunning! Lots of very classic and feminine silhouettes, accentuating the waist and lengthening the body. No colour was off limit and as you’ll notice below we saw an entire gradient of nudes, creams, and pinks, and all the way to bold reds and timeless navy and blacks.

Perfect Valentines Day Looks!

Perfect Valentines Day Looks!

Valentine’s Day is 2 days away and it’s a long weekend! That’s 3 days to look fun and flirty!

Do you know what yo’ll be wearing yet? Here are a few friendly tips and suggestions from Lookbook Store:

Crochet Sheath Dress – $30.28!

This shade of burgundy looks good on any skin colour. It’s a beautifully romantic colour fit perfectly for this colder time of year. I absolutely love the feminine shape of this dress and the lace detail. This is the kind of dress that will make me feel good. It’s covered, and isn’t too short, but hugs your curves at just the right places! And for the price? Wow!

I would wear this dress with black tights and likely black high heel boots, along with a fun blazer or beautiful cardigan to stay warm. Read more

Women’s bodies… is there a spectrum?

Women’s bodies… is there a spectrum?

Let me get right into it. Why is it that there are only 2 body types displayed in fashion? Thin and Plus size. As fantastic as it is that in recent years more plus size bloggers have been coming to prominence, and magazines have been dedicating sections, or pages to plus size models, why are we segregating these women? Why does one need to feel isolated, or like ‘the other’? Are you seriously telling me that 100% of women fall either on the tall-and-thin or tall-and-‘plus size’ ends. There is no spectrum? Why do plus size women need a section in a magazine? Why can’t we just have a mix of different women all throughout the magazine?

I understand that there is a standard in the fashion industry, and models have to be ‘Paris thin’. Whether I agree with that or not is a topic for another day. And while that’s the standard for runway shows it is not the case in real life. I know women who are short, tall, very thin, average, bigger, etc. All shapes and size. I’m sure you do too. So why is the industry so rigid? Read more

The Beauty of Malu

The Beauty of Malu

I recently attended the Mode Accessories Show where I witnessed many beautiful and unique gems. Today I want to share with you a brand that touched me beyond the physical beauty of its pieces. I was very lucky to not only get a glimpse of MaLu’s spring line but get to know the woman behind the brand – Maria Luisa.

Maria, a school teacher so wholeheartedly devoted to her kids, started the “Start me up” breakfast program at the school she was teaching in at the time. The program quickly became successful and grew from the $500 Maria began with to receiving a $100,000 grant from Sun Life Financial. The Toronto District School Board took notice and modeled their own nutrition programs after Start Me Up. The name, by the way, was created by the kids themselves which earned them a well-deserved pizza party for their efforts! But the school where Start Me Up originated had to close down which was hugely upsetting to Maria. Read more

Hi Lovelies! Happy Friday!

Whether you’re figuring out what to wear this weekend, or reworking your closet from scratch the key to building a stellar wardrobe is versatility. You want to make sure your pieces have multiple purposes and can be worn essentially anywhere! A fun way to do that is by grabbing some colourful, tailored tops and pairing them with all sorts of different bottoms!

This is a Brody Miles top I got at Winners a little while back and i absolutely love it. I wear it on weekends with dark denim, brown boots, and a camel blazer:
