I stumbled upon a super awesome lipstick hack this past weekend, and I just had to share it!
I wrote about the long lasting power of the Maybelline SUPERSTAY 24® lipstick before, and talked about how it will literally last through anything. Believe me, I was skeptical too, but there’s just no stopping it!
At this point, I know that Maybelline SUPERSTAY 24® works great on its own, but what I discovered is that it also plays well with others.
The main thing I learned, by reluctantly doing my makeup in the morning (nope, not a morning person) is that in order to look put together in a short amount of time you must touch every surface. What I mean by that is don’t leave any part of your face out! It’s just not fair. Even though you don’t have a lot of time, applying foundation and simple barely-there eyeshadow will do wonders!
Here are the simple steps I take to achieve a simple 5 minute look (& a few tips and tricks along the way):
Many of you may have seen this video making its rounds on the internet, showing the Power of Makeup, by Nikkie of Nikkie Tutorials (who by the way is amazing!!).
The lesson you take away from this video is up to you, but I thought it was an important video to talk about. I often discuss natural beauty (latest natural beauty tutorial here). But another subject I talk about is confidence, and the ability to understand that there are NO RULES. If not wearing makeup, or wearing a little bit of makeup is your thing – great! If you love to have fun with makeup and treat it like your very own daily work of art – good for you! What I’m getting at is, you should do what makes you happy. While I think that it’s important to be confident with your natural beauty, people have different motives for wearing makeup.
One thing I’ve learned is not to judge people. (More on the time I judged too soon and Christine Teigen put me in my place here ) . Even if to you makeup seems superficial and unnecessary, it doesn’t mean that others see it that way. It very well could be that others view it as a fun outlet for creativity, a way to step into a new character for a day, or experiment with new techniques. And if it happens to be the case that you know someone is wearing makeup as a means to cover up an insecurity, it’s the more reason to help them, and not to be judgmental. Read more
I hope you’re enjoying spring and having fun with lighter layers and fun colours!!
Today I want to talk about the quintessential part of any beauty toolkit – the red lip!!
From classic Hollywood glamour to modern day cool, the red lip will forever maintain its allure, and will continue to brighten the faces and moods of women everywhere. Of course there are as many red lipstick shades as there are beautiful women, and finding the ‘perfect’ one can be daunting. I am here to tell you, or perhaps to remind you, that creating your own is perfectly acceptable and leads to fabulous results. Think of all the different colour lipsticks that are hiding in your makeup collection, and think about how many more possibilities there would be if you began to mix some of them and create brand new shades! That’s exactly what I did recently and here is the result:
To me this shade is perfect! It’s muted yet bright, and can be easily worn during the day with a simple eye, or glamorously played up at night. Read more
Thank goodness for Canadian boutiques carrying British brands!
I am absolutely in love with Darling – an English brand I discovered while perusing Gather, my favorite boutique! In fact, I’m building quite the Darling collection.
This Milena Lace Tunic, is the only shift-style dress I own. I tend to gravitate towards more hourglass silhouettes, but I couldn’t walk away from this pretty cutaway detailing. The neckline, although conservative, feels very pretty and special thanks to the gorgeous and feminine lace. I got it on sale as it was part of the fall/winter lineup, which is slowly being pushed out to make way for spring, but I see a lot of spring potential! The material is lightweight so it will be perfect for a summer night. For more casual summer nights, I’d wear it with fun coloured heels or wedges, and maybe a thin belt. For fancier ones I would kick the jewelry up a notch with some classic earring, and keep the colour scheme more monochromatic with black heels to complete the look. As it is still winter, and it was a casual night out with friends, I wore this dress with black tights and the comfiest brown boots (Aldo?). Read more
Lot’s of makeup posts lately! I guess it’s because I’ve been so excited for the Gather For Brunchkins event coming up tomorrow night – it’s all I’ve been thinking about. Gather for Brunchkins is an event aimed at raising money for Brunchkins which is an organization providing breakfast and a packed lunch for kids in non-profit housing, in the Bowmanville area. If you’d like to come by tomorrow, it’s not too late! There will be tickets at the door for $20. There will be a beautifully motivational talk given by Julia Grieve, wine, food, goodie bags, and make up tutorials by yours truly! The makeup I’ll be using tomorrow will all be by Arbonne Cosmetics. The great thing about Arbonne is that not only does it work really well, but it feels fantastic on your skin due to the fact that it’s paraben free, phthalates free, 100% vegan, doesn’t contain mineral oils, no gluten, no artificial fragrances, and is PETA approved. Yes, it’s good!
To create today’s look though, I used several different brands, and some new products I was eager to try.
The products I’ve never tried before are the Annabelle Bronzer, and Annabelle pencils – both eye and lip ones, And I have to say I’m pretty impressed. The great thing about a lip pencil, and I don’t mean a lip liner, but one you would use for your entire lip, is that you can’t screw up! Just like when you were little you get to colour inside the lines. Maybe it’s just me but I feel that this way you have more control. The other thing I liked about this pencil is that its rather moisturizing and also doesn’t feel like a foreign body annexed to your lips but rather natural and comfortable. The shade I’m wearing is called Vamp and you can find it here.
I have to tell you about this lipstick, or lip stain rather.
A friend told me about it a while ago. She claimed that it stays on all night. What are the chances of a color staying on your lips after you eat, drink, kiss, or whatever else you do? But I figured I’d try it. It only cost $12 so I didn’t have too much to lose but potentially a new favorite to gain!
This lipstick is available in 30 different wonderful shades (click on picture for link). The one I’m wearing is ‘Keep up the Flame’ #025, but I have a feeling I’ll be adding more to my collection. This lipstick has 2 sides to it. One is the actual colour, and the other is the hydrating balm. After applying the colour your lips will feel a bit dry but that’s ok. Make sure the color dries completely and then apply the balm, which will hydrate your lips and add shine.
Hi guys! So I haven’t posted anything in 5 days *Gasp*! I know. I even missed Thursday Thought! But here’s why: As you know TIFF is in town, so naturally I had to be there. My friends and I didn’t get tickets to see any movies, not yet anyway, but we really wanted to be downtown for the hoopla of opening night! While we probably should have gone to King St. W. we decided to make our way to Yorkville instead, in the hopes of spotting some stars enjoying their evening. If you’ve never been to Toronto, you have to visit Yorkville. It’s a really cute area to just walk through, grab some lunch, go for drinks, and of course shop. This is the expensive shopping part of town, so if you’re into that sort of thing it’s fantastic! Just name it, it’s there. Otherwise, Yorkville is really great for window-shopping and inspiration. Because it’s an expensive area your chances of spotting celebrities there are pretty good all year round, not to mention during TIFF time.
What we learned is that to sit on the patio of certain places around TIFF time you need to make reservations. I’m pretty sure there were free tables but they must have been saved for celebs. Obviously we just didn’t cut it. Anyway, we ended up going to this adorable Italian restaurant called Trattoria Nervosa, and sat on their rooftop patio.
If you go, you should try their pizza and Aperol Spritzers. Both were divine! The pizza has a super thin crust, and tasted really fresh. They told us it was small, but we found it to be perfect for sharing.
