It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday on a warm fall day in the city. It was a girl’s day complete with fabulous decor, yummy treats, inspiring stories, celebrity guests, silent auction & raffle, and of course an unforgettable fashion show with footwear brought to you by Malu.
Whether you shop for fun or for necessity, I think we’re all predisposed to making some common mistakes.
Buying Something Because It’s Cheap
Sure, who doesn’t love to save money, but if cheap is the only criteria that helped up you pick that dress – put it back! Think about how that garment will work in your wardrobe. Will you ever even wear it? I like to justify purchases in terms of Cost Per Wear. If an item is more expensive but you’ll get more use out of it, it may be more justified than that cheap frock you’ll wear once. That being said, if something you LOVE is on sale, congratulations and well done!!
Buying Something To Fit Into Eventually
“Oh look it’s an adorable pair of jeans that fits my arms! But that’s ok, I plan on being skinny! I’m sure it will fit soon” Oh boy, I know I’ve said that one too many times! Shop for pieces that make you feel good now, and don’t clutter your wardrobe with clothes for future you. If your body changes, you should accommodate it then. Whether it’s because you’ve worked hard to lose weight, or gained a few pounds, you deserve to feel good.
Today is all about Vegas & the #UltimateVegasOutfit challenge! To me, this is an opportunity to play virtual dress up, and reminisce about my own trip to Vegas. I went to Vegas last year, and the city is as diverse as it is bright! So the Ultimate Vegas Outfit is one that makes you feel comfortable, and confident – whatever that might be. For me it was a purple Le Chateau dress that hit just above the knee, paired with a damask-like necklace and sky high heels to match. The dress was covered yet tight so basically appropriate for any occasion – show, restaurant, wedding. Read more
As you know, I’ve been partnering up with Malu to bring you giveaways here on the blog. Throughout our collaboration I had the privilege to get to know Malu and am proud to call her a good friend.
Malu is so wonderful and kind that she created a custom pair of booties just for me! If that wasn’t enough, these babies are part on the Fall/Winter collection, and ARE NAMED AFTER ME! That’s right, the Fanny can be all yours this fall! I have to tell you that not only are these booties unique – with their cutout design, and extremely high quality – high end Italian leather, they are also comfortable and well thought out. The heel is thick enough to allow you to rock it all day long. Not only that, but the grip is superb, so I wouldn’t even hesitate to wear them in the winter (with tights). In true Malu fashion, there is of course a touch of kindness, via a gold plated “I love you” message. And I certainly am in love with these shoes!
Here are a few outfits I’ve styled with these awesome Fanny booties by Malu: Read more
Yes yes yes! This season is great! This is so revolutionary! When else in recent fashion history has there been another such exciting development which lifted a fashion ban on something previously thought of as a completely taboo? I absolutely love that this season has brought us the new trend of mixing prints & patterns!
Mind you, I don’t like ALL mixed patterned outfits, but you know my rule: if your hair and make up are done and you wear the look with confidence, you can rock it!
Here is what I found to work best when attempting this radical pairing:
1. Stripe + Print + statement necklace.
This formula will save you time! Go ahead and mix other prints, but stripes are easiest of all to match with other prints & patterns. A statement necklace works to pull your outfit together, and in and of itself has been a huge trend over the last year. Read more
Sock buns are awesome!! If you’ve never made one check out the tutorial here.
They immediately add volume to your hair and make a regular bun look so much more substantial! They also make it look like you know what you’re doing and were able to gather your hair into an impossibly neat, ballerina worthy, bun. With that being said, here’s a fun twist on a style that’s quickly become a new favorite! Read more
It’s hard to believe that the birthday girl, Emma Watson, is turning only 25!
Here’s a look at why we love, adore, and look up to Emma so much!
In her quarter century of awesomeness she’s certainly achieved a lot, and earned a whole bunch of awards along the way. In December of 2014 receiving the British Style Icon Award at the British Fashion Awards (well deserved!).
I hope you had a great Passover, Easter, or just a warm spring long weekend!
I recently picked up this great flowy salmon coloured top from Winners, and I just couldn’t wait to style it. Salmon and coral shades in general are very universal and flattering on all skin colours. Which explains why I’m not waiting to be tan to bust this one out!
I chose to pair it with warm colours in various shades of pinks and oranges, and add a pop of blue with my purse – all with some awesome gold hardware. Read more
Nestled in the heart of downtown Toronto, on a quaint street in Yorkville, you can’t help but be drawn to the beautiful Pink House. Even if you’re not familiar with the brand which means “true happiness” in Chinese, the colour alone will do it! It’s not everyday you come across a pink house.
Inside, the house still maintains its beautiful Victorian architecture and detail, with a fun flair which fits the brand to a T!
Under the pretense that I absolutely need a new purse I headed to the Jeanne Lottie sample sale, to check out their wide selection of work totes, spring handbags, clutches, and multi-coloured awesomeness! Read more
It’s not every day the words inspiring, stylish, innovative, and beautiful are used together, but that exactly what comes to mind when I think of Maria Luisa – founder of MaLu.
Maria is a high school teacher with a passion for community and humanity. Having seen first hand some of her students come to school hungry, she knew that it was no way to learn and she just had to do something about it. She started the “Start Me Up” breakfast program in her school. The program began with $500 and many local businesses eager to help, and grew to become the model school for the Toronto District School Board’s nutrition program, and resulting in a $100K grant from Sun Life Financial to help expand it.
Unfortunately the school where this initiative began had to close, which was “detrimental” since there was more work to be done. Not one to wallow, Maria took her passion and energy and devoted it wholeheartedly to MaLu where she continues to make a difference by donating 5% of all sales to local charities. Read more
Today’s post is brought to you by Bluegala Fashion Blog , who created a fabulous infographic with some pretty crazy information!
We all know Michelle Obama is a beautiful woman, who sports fashion forward yet mostly affordable looks, but she does more than that. Her style choices alone have a huge impact on the economy, and on the lucky brands she chooses to wear. Check out the stats below. Enjoy!
Throughout history the first-lady has influenced fashion trends, however, none have had as much of an impact as Michelle Obama. Her clothing choices can result in stock prices for the clothing companies to rise as much as 2–3% for up to 3 weeks after she wears an outfit. Her fashion appeals to the people as she mixes more affordable brands like Gap and Target with high end pieces.
Thank goodness for Canadian boutiques carrying British brands!
I am absolutely in love with Darling – an English brand I discovered while perusing Gather, my favorite boutique! In fact, I’m building quite the Darling collection.
This Milena Lace Tunic, is the only shift-style dress I own. I tend to gravitate towards more hourglass silhouettes, but I couldn’t walk away from this pretty cutaway detailing. The neckline, although conservative, feels very pretty and special thanks to the gorgeous and feminine lace. I got it on sale as it was part of the fall/winter lineup, which is slowly being pushed out to make way for spring, but I see a lot of spring potential! The material is lightweight so it will be perfect for a summer night. For more casual summer nights, I’d wear it with fun coloured heels or wedges, and maybe a thin belt. For fancier ones I would kick the jewelry up a notch with some classic earring, and keep the colour scheme more monochromatic with black heels to complete the look. As it is still winter, and it was a casual night out with friends, I wore this dress with black tights and the comfiest brown boots (Aldo?). Read more
Julia Grieve, the beautiful fashionable and successful woman behind Preloved, was generous enough to sit down with me for a chat where she let me pick her brain. Having started her own business at a very young age, Julia definitely knows a thing or two about entrepreneurship!
“When I started my business I was young and not afraid of anything. Ignorance can truly be bliss! I knew exactly what I wanted and I went after it. I, of course, could not have done it without the support we got from the city, without my family, or without my modelling experience.”
She credits her attention to detail and meticulous eye for fit to her career as an international model.
“Wearing some of the most expensive brands in the world teaches you about how clothing should fit, and feel.”
Welcome to another giveaway and a chance to raise awareness towards another fantastic organization, brought to you by Malu!
Every store carrying Malu products selects a charity or an organization within its community towards which Malu donates 5% of the sales. In the case of T2B, this week’s featured organization, the store supporting it is Clyde Hatch Boutique, located also in Windsor Ontario, where you can find beautiful Malu shoes and accessories. This year’s red carpet was stunning! Lots of very classic and feminine silhouettes, accentuating the waist and lengthening the body. No colour was off limit and as you’ll notice below we saw an entire gradient of nudes, creams, and pinks, and all the way to bold reds and timeless navy and blacks.
Although the week isn’t over there is already a trend you just can’t turn away from. Baroque was everywhere, at least in part, and I’m not complaining! While of course we can’t overlook the prominence of the 70’s and beautiful rich tones, fun uses of fur pieces, and pops of bright orange, gold shined like a star and here are a few examples of baroque on the runway:
Badgley Mischka is the best example. The entire collection made use of beautiful and intricate gold fabrics and appliqués. Read more
I have some really great news to share with everyone!
If you’ve read my posts on Malu and the great work that they do, you know that the brand creates absolutely beautiful shoes and gives back to the community with every sale. I adore this idea so much that Maria and I have teamed up to bring to you weekly giveaways! Of course no giveaway is complete without giving back to the community so what we’ve decided to do is pick an organization each week and help raise awareness towards it – do that and you’ll be entered to win the weekly prize.
To participate: Check out the weekly organization and comment 1 tidbit of info you’ve discovered about them. That’s it!
