Black can still be fun!

Thank goodness for Canadian boutiques carrying British brands!

I am absolutely in love with Darling – an English brand I discovered while perusing Gather, my favorite boutique! In fact, I’m building quite the Darling collection.

This Milena Lace Tunic, is the only shift-style dress I own. I tend to gravitate towards more hourglass silhouettes, but I couldn’t walk away from this pretty cutaway detailing. The neckline, although conservative, feels very pretty and special thanks to the gorgeous and feminine lace. I got it on sale as it was part of the fall/winter lineup, which is slowly being pushed out to make way for spring, but I see a lot of spring potential! The material is lightweight so it will be perfect for a summer night. For more casual summer nights, I’d wear it with fun coloured heels or wedges, and maybe a thin belt. For fancier ones  I would kick the jewelry up a notch with some classic earring, and keep the colour scheme more monochromatic with black heels to complete the look. As it is still winter, and it was a casual night out with friends, I wore this dress with black tights and the comfiest brown boots (Aldo?).

Don’t let anyone tell you black and brown can’t be worn together!

The Makeup:

My starting point was the lip. I knew I wanted to wear this Orangey-red Volcanic shade from L’Oreal. I applied Lisa’s technique of really pressing the colour into my lips with a brush, blotting it with a napkin, and repeating until the colour was really set to ensure it lasts all night. For the eyes I kept it simple with a warm and neutral pallet, using the Maybelline Eyeshadow quad in 90Q Rose Lights. I applied the warm pink shade all over with the brown in the crease for depth. The key here was the Annabelle eye-pencil in bronze, which I used on both my top and bottom lash-lines and smoked out. Finally I drew a super thin line at the very roots of my lashes with the amazing Annabelle liquid eyeliner. I’ve been using this product for years, and I hope they never discontinue it! For mascara I used the Arbonne It’s a Long Story™ Mascara which does a great job at fanning and lengthening your lashes.

One things for sure – great skin is always the foundation of any look. I’m currently obsessed with Maybelline’s FIT ME (in 135), which  has great coverage while still being lightweight on your skin. I’m also really enjoying the fact that the bottle cap twists off entirely, giving you flexibility and control over exactly how much comes out. Definite fave right now! And that’s it, that’s the look!

Thanks so much for reading! You’re all super duper awesome!
