Big News!! Hint: Free stuff you can feel good about!

Hi Lovelies!

I have some really great news to share with everyone!

If you’ve read my posts on Malu and the great work that they do, you know that the brand creates absolutely beautiful shoes and gives back to the community with every sale. I adore this idea so much that Maria and I have teamed up to bring to you weekly giveaways! Of course no giveaway is complete without giving back to the community so what we’ve decided to do is pick an organization each week and help raise awareness towards it – do that and you’ll be entered to win the weekly prize.

To participate:  Check out the weekly organization and comment 1 tidbit of info you’ve discovered about them. That’s it!

Help us spread the word by sharing this post on twitter and/or facebook, and don’t forget to subscribe to the blog!

And of course follow us on Twitter at @splattershare and @DesignsbyMalu

This week’s giveaway:

What I learned about Sheena’s place: it is a place where people that have been affected by eating disorders, whether directly or indirectly, can go and seek help FOR FREE.

Great Post! Sheena’s Place is an awesome non-profit organization that offers support to individuals, families and friends affected by eating disorders through Support Groups, Body Image Groups, Skill Building Groups, and Expressive Arts Groups. Close to 1000 people attend a group at Sheena’s Place each year.

It’s wonderful to see an organization dedicated to a cause that affects so many people! It’s great that Sheena’s Place is working towards helping people with eating disorders, and particularly in erasing some of the stigmas surrounding this illness. I was really excited to read that they provide an Expressive Arts Group as I think it is an innovative way to help individuals express their voice.

Sheena’s Place is a centre that offers various support groups to those affected by eating disorders. Their dedication to providing help and support is truly invaluable to people affected by these disorders, particularly due to the secretive nature of these conditions and with only a minority seeking treatment. Moreover, their Vision & Mission of raising awareness about eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating is significant, not only because they affect virtually everyone (especially the loved ones) around those who are affected, but also because the prevalence rates among atypical groups (e.g., men, children) are increasing in an alarming manner nowadays. Sheena’s Place devotion to improving quality of life and facilitating the journey to recovery is transparent as can be evidenced by their openness to and welcoming of everyone in the community (e.g., one does not need to have a referral from the family doctor nor an official diagnosis of a specific eating disorder). The expertise combined with nonjudgmental attitudes exhibited by practitioners at this facility can make a real difference to individuals suffering from eating disorders and those who surround them!

This is amazing! Sheena’s Place provides a safe place for individuals to seek help with their eating disorder. This issue is something that tends to be swept under so its nice to have this opportunity to speak out on it.

I think it’s awesome that Sheena’s Place not only helps the person struggling with an eating disorder, but all the people who love him or her as well. Group healing instead of the person coping solo.

What’s interesting about Sheena’s place is that one of the ways they help those in need is by expressing their feelings throuh art! This includes painting, drawing or playing instruments. This would for sure help release the most difficult emotions without saying saying a single word!

I think it’s wonderful that that you don’t need a referral or diagnosis to participate in programs offered at Sheena’s Place. The invitation to start the “conversation” makes them accessible in an unthreatening way.

I love that Sheena’s Place does NOT operate from a “one size fits all” approach. Anyone affected by struggles with their body image, exercise or eating is welcome to come and get support- completely free of charge! This includes the loved ones of those struggling as well. They are truly a one of a kind service that offers hope when it is most needed.
