Aveeno Fresh Essentials – Review

With Spring around the corner (or so says the calendar) these could not come at a better time!

The first thing I noticed about this lineup of Aveeno Fresh Essentials is the smell. The fresh scent itself is enough to rejuvenate tired skin. My sister came over the other day and used the facial scrub and those were her first words too. It smells amazing! Another wonderful factor common to all 3 products is they are oil-free.

Full disclosure: These were sent to me for free to try out and share my opinion.

1. Fresh Essentials Daily Exfoliating Scrub

The great thing about a scrub is that it can be used to remove makeup and deep clean your pores at the same time, leaving you with perfectly clean skin after the makeup’s all gone. Personally my skin can be sensitive and scrubs that are too harsh tend to leave it red and irritated. The texture of this scrub feels very smooth at first, but as you begin to rub it between your hands you start to feel tiny beads. These tiny beads are so gentle that even if you have sensitive skin, like mine, your skin will be left feeling exfoliated but not red and irritated. This was a huge factor for me. Definite bonus points right there!

A little bit of this stuff really goes a long way – simply rub a dime size amount between your hands, and apply to your face with some water as you go. I find that it removes all makeup including eyebrow pencils and mascara. Eyebrow pencils are seriously the bane of my makeup removal process. I usually have to rub my eyebrows pretty hard for anything to happen at all. This of course results in the aforementioned red and irritated skin, and not without lost eyebrow hairs. This scrub certainly ensures none of that discomfort occurs. Makeup removing perfection!

2. Fresh Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with Vitamins A, C, & E

I know you’re supposed to use SPF to protect your skin all year-round, but lets’ admit it we don’t. I really want to have a sunny reason to use SPF but I live in Canada, and it’s February. So unless the SPF is already in my foundation (which it is) chances are I’ll “forget” to apply it. Mostly I’ve been using this product as hand cream, which isn’t the best idea because it’s meant to protect your skin so it provides a barrier of sorts and doesn’t get absorbed into your hands as well as you’d expect hand cream to get absorbed. When you use it for its intended purpose however, it’s quite nice. It provides long lasting moisture and really locks it in. This product feels thick upon application, but since it’s oil free I didn’t mind that too much. I’ve used it instead of a primer prior to applying foundations before and have seen great results.

3. Fresh Essentials Hydrating Night Cream Vitamins A, C, & E

This is my new favourite night cream! I’ve been using it nightly after the exfoliating scrub. Aside from the fact that it smells great, it feels really soft and soothing on your skin. Apply it before bed and there’s no doubt that you’re beauty sleep will be just that –  beautifying!

The biggest change I’ve noticed, and I can’t attribute it to only one product since I’ve been using both the scrub and nightly moisturizer together, is that my skin feels more radiant. It has more life and looks healthier when it’s bare.

Overall, I’m absolutely in love with the scrub and night cream and will be purchasing those again. The daily moisturizer was good but I wasn’t as impressed. I do look forward to giving it a try when the weather warms up to see how it acts.

Let me know if you guys have tried any of the above and what you thought!

Thanks for reading! I hope it was helpful!
